Who we are, what we do

The Federation of Fly Fishers is an international club devoted to fly fishing for all species of fish dedicated to conservation, restoration and education. The FFF does this through local activities which it supports with materials and programs for over 260 self directed clubs. It supports conservation of all fish in all waters and believes that healthy ecosystems are important for bluegills, bass, walleye, pike, perch and crappie, as well as trout and salmon. The FFF and its members believe that fly fishing is the most fun way to fish because of its diversity (it works well with all types of fish) and the continuing need to learn more about all fish species, their habitat, and the challenge of improving our individual fly fishing skills. The Federation is headquartered in Bozeman, Montana.

Who we are: The Twin Tiers Five Rivers Club is a charter club of the FFF. Our membership is very diverse and members enjoy fishing and helping those with lesser skills and experience.

What we do at Meetings: We have monthly 'member meetings' where the focus is on fly fishing. We usually have a featured presentation by an invited speaker, and allow time for informal interaction as well. We have a separate 'business meeting' open to all FFF members, where we plan club events and activities. Click here for the complete schedule of meetings and events.

When we meet: Member meetings are the first Monday of the month (unless it conflicts with a holiday) at 7:00 pm in the Village of Big Flats new Community Center, across from the Big Flats Volunteer Fire Department. See our Calendar of Events for current meeting dates. Business meetings are in the same location and time, on the third Monday of the month.

Fishing Trips for Members: We plan fishing trips for members on local waters including the Chemung, Cohocton, Cayuta, Pine Creek, Big Fishing Creek, the Beaver Kill and Delaware. We do the local waters on a pre-planned and also on a spur of the moment basis where members are contacted by email and/or telephone. Out of town and extended trips are also done. Once learned, fly fishing is a lifetime activity.

Training: We conduct an introduction to fly fishing seminar each year, usually during the month of March. On water sessions for trout, bass or pan fish are also possible if enough persons show an interest. Members are also available to assist local schools in establishing introductory classes on fly fishing, casting and tying.

Conservation & Restoration: Our members assist the New York State DEC in stocking the Cohocton River and Cayuta Creek using member designed and constructed float stocking rafts. Members have also worked to secure public fishing access and assisted the Soil and Water Conservation District in water sampling area streams. Other activities are being investigated and planned to improve stream conditions through bank stabilization, shrub and tree plantings.

Becoming a Member: The only requirement for joining the local chapter is to become a member of the national FFF. Applications are available on line at the FFF website ; or contact a club officer. Federation dues are $35/year (senior and family rates are available). The Federation and our charter club are charitable organizations under 501 (C) (3) of the IRS code.
